However, I am surprised at your interpretation of the ending, and in specific your omission of what I thought was the strongest point of the entire film - the radio caller stating something to the effect of "he is either a nutacase or an illegal alien - in either case he should be locked up or deported". I thought this presented one of the most ultimate truths and connections to our own human conditions, and to me was the most compelling point of the entire film.
